Meldrum Bay

Meldrum Bay, located on the northwest tip of Manitoulin Island, is one of last stops in the North Channel as one heads west. I remember, with great anticipation as we cruised into the Bay for the very first time. One might think the anticipation was for the natural wonders that the North Channel had to offer an adventurous cruiser but instead it was for the fabled “Pie Lady” we’d heard so much about. We had heard the she came down to the marina area and sold her freshly baked pies from the back of her car. We heard you couldn’t get a pie any fresher, better tasting or reasonably priced than from this particular baker. After tying our boat up and checking in at the marina we headed straight into town to locate the “Pie Lady” only to find that the year before had been her last year and therefore the pie tradition in Meldrum Bay was no longer in effect.Even though we had no fresh out of the over warm fruit pie we did discover that the remotely located Meldrum Bay town had a lot of character and our stay was very pleasant.
